My Son Has Tiger Blood. Winning!

Now that I have your attention...I'll get to the real subject of my blog: is it more cost-effective to purchase baby food, or make your own? My son is just starting with veggies, and I've been exploring the cost benefits to both. And I have to say, for right now, where he is eating only veggies (and then fruits next week), making my own is WINNING (sorry, I couldn't resist)!

    Having a Baby is Expensive

I know, the majority of you parents out there are probably rolling your eyes at the title and saying, "Well, yeah; that's pretty obvious." But, I honestly think that until you really get into the preparations for welcoming a little one into your home, you have no idea just how much money it will cost. And I am not even talking about when the baby arrives; I am talking about everything that goes into his or her arrival. There are some items that I am not willing to compromise on in terms of cost, like paying for various childbirth preparation classes, interviewing various pediatricians to make sure my husband and I are comfortable with the doctor we select, and including only safe and non-toxic products in the nursery, from the...

If Only I Had a Crystal Ball!

My recent world was a world of opportunities in investments, housing, jobs, etc. The sky was the limit? Like many others, Max and I let this economic recession sneak up on us and is now become our reality. My parents suffered through the depression, and I now understand why my mom was such a penny pincher. I used to think she was just “cheap”. But now, every other day I hear about someone else that I know who has lost their job or their home. We were so spoiled with being able to afford name brands, big houses and nice cars. Today we are being faced with survival methods to be financially stable. We purchase only necessities and shop smart for every item -- just like mom. ...

    Coupon Clippers Beware!

My name is Savvy Spender, and I am a coupon clipper. In fact, I have always been a coupon clipper. Whether it is a coupon for frozen corn or $5 off a haircut. I've sometimes clipped coupons for things that I never had any intention of buying. I've purchased little "coupon organizers" so that my coupons are handy whenever I'm in the store. I am also one of those that finally remembers that I have a coupon for something, then I get all the way to the checkout -- only to find out that my coupon expired, or I was supposed to buy two and get the third one for $1 off. Guess what --- by that time, I end up just paying the full price for it and tell myself that the "next time" I buy this, I'll remember to use the coupon!!!!! Who out there can't relate???? ...
