Shopping! That is one word that I love to hear and put into action.
Being that times are tough financially, I need to remind myself to stay frugal and smart when I'm shopping. The best way for me to get the most bang for my buck is to use coupons and shop sales.
But, not all sales are created equal. You need to shop the true sales to get the true savings.
Here are four key tips to follow:
Use Coupons: When stores are having sales they usually don't accept store coupons. But, there are sometimes exceptions and this is when you should take full advantage. For example, if the store sale is buy one get one 50% off and you can also use a 20% off coupon - that is a great sale. Make sure to always read the fine print on your coupons, because the coupon will state whether or not you can use the coupon on sale items.
Shop Clearance Items: Clearance items are always a great buy, but when the clearance items are an additional percentage off, then that is even better. Most stores want to get rid of their seasonal clearance, so stores will discount an additional percentage off of the items. When you see sales like this, you should take advantage of them because it is an awesome way to save money.
Apply for Store Rewards: Today, most stores have store rewards programs that allow you to earn points on purchases. When the points add up, you receive a coupon or gift card that helps you to save money or gets you something virtually free. Some stores even offer money off of gas purchases. I have a rewards card for practically every store I shop and it's a terrific way to save money. Make sure to always use your rewards card when there is a store sale, because the more you buy, the more points you earn.
Stock Up: When stores have sales such as: buy one get one free, two for $20, 50% off, etc. you should stock up on items that you need or use frequently. Taking advantage of these sales is an excellent way to save some cash. Look at sale ads in your local newspaper and see when the items you need are on sale.
These suggestions are only some ways you can take advantage of a sale. You can also try shopping after the holidays to catch some good deals or online to get free shipping on sale items.
Deals are constant and if you're aware and shop smart there is no reason why you shouldn't save some money.
