CareOne My Journey Out of Debt Blog, ThankfulWe are lucky to be living in a country that offers us every opportunity to succeed, to be happy, and to prosper. Despite the weak economy, we are blessed. Yes people, we are indeed blessed.

Take a good look around. Earthquakes, fights, uprising, famine, unstable nations, and people without homes or even a simple plate of food on their tables; Europe's economy is a big question mark.

We should all pray and count our blessings every single day! We live in heaven compared to other nations.

This is to all who fight for a better tomorrow, to those who are losing hope, to those who think that everything sucks.

It doesn't! We can live simpler lives, and we can be happy with what we have when so many around us have absolutely nothing!

So let's play a game. Instead of feeling dragged down by our financial situation, we can live and have fun even when our financial means are not what we want them to be.

Some ideas:

  1. Instead of going to a movie with friends, rotate houses and use pay per view to watch a current movie on your television with them. The price beats a visit to the movies.
  2. Add weekly visits with friends to your calendar. Potluck gatherings are cheaper than restaurants, and keeping relationships with friends makes us all feel loved and connected. Talking with close friends usually helps us find solutions to all sorts of problems.
  3. Clean your home. Lately I discovered that hosting a garage sale with friends is a great way to make some extra money, or even exchange stuff between friends. You might have a book, a sweater, or something else you don't need that might be useful to a friend, or that could make you some cash.
  4. Another story that lifted my spirit is about three friends who couldn't afford their rent, so they rented a bigger house, they moved in together, and guess what? Found great savings! One utility bill divided by three, one cable bill divided by three, groceries divided by three, and one rent divided by three. Now that is what I call ingenuity.

You can keep adding to those ideas, have fun while saving, and save yourself from heartache.

We need to enjoy our lives while mending our past mistakes and putting our financial homes in order.
